| Oil painting on canvas "Blue Adirondack" 18x24 2004 NFS |
From rocking chairs, extending in adirondack chairs seemed a natural addition. I spent many years at the New
Jersey shore and adirondack chairs recall the sense of that place and time. They are welcoming and safe, a place to curl
up to read a book or watch the changing light of the day--a retreat from the world. Solitude and distance from others--a
protective posture--run through me when I paint them.
All my chairs remain empty to reinforce the sense of isolation but also to allow each viewer to develop his
or her own story.
